'Aftershock' and 'H2H' will start again on Sunday 5th September 2010 following the summer holiday.


COURSE IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES: there is still time to join the course, which begins in September. If you would like more information please contact Angela Want (540051).

DIARY DATE: Parish Weekend will be 13th-15th May 2011 at Letton Hall. More details to come in the Autumn.


A CONFIRMATION SERVICE will be held here on Sunday 21st November. Anyone interested in being confirmed, please speak to David or one of the Clergy.

TEENAGE CONFIRMATION: There will also be a course for 11-18 year olds interested in confirmation.

The Transition Project meets on Tuesdays in the Parish Rooms, between 11am and 1pm, aimed at those who are currently out of work. Computers and Internet access are available for those wanting help in polishing their CVs, or drop by for a cup of coffee and a chat.

MOTHER’S UNION start their September meetings with a service of Holy Communion in the North Chapel of St Mary’s, Saffron Walden at 2.30pm on Thursday, 9th Sept. The Revd Can Chris Bishop will be preaching, and all are welcome.

St John Little Walden - Songs of Praise Centenary Celebration: Saturday 11th September 3.00pm, led by Anne Howson. We will be welcoming back past Curates Lee Batson, David Twinley and Richard Finch and their families. The children of St. Mary’s Church choir will be singing. Our Centenary kneelers and banner will be blessed and the Service will be followed by tea in the Village hall.

Friends of Essex Churches Ride and Stride. Saturday 11th September. Take part yourself or sponsor Steve Hasler on his ride from Brightlingsea. See noticeboard at back of St Mary's.

REVD ANNE HOWSON will be speaking at the Bible Society meeting in the Salvation Army Hall on
Wednesday, 15th September at 3.00pm. Please come and support the work of the Bible Society and
enjoy a cup of tea afterwards.

HARVEST FESTIVAL LUNCH - Sunday, 19th September. Lunch will be held after the 10am Family Service at 12.15pm. Cost is £5 for adults, £1 for children, and free for under 5’s. Please sign the list at the back of church, for catering purposes.

St Mary's Book Group will hold their next meeting, after the summer break, at 8pm on Friday 24 September 2010, at 4 Castle Street, to discuss Matthew Kneale's novel English Passengers. Copies are
available from the Reading Groups shelf in Saffron Walden Library. New members will be very welcome.

WOMEN’S OWN meet again on Saturday, 25th Sept at 9.00am. Further dates for 2010 are 30th October and 27th November. Watch this space!

MEN'S WALK Saturday 9th October. Meet at St Mary’s at 10am for a walk in the local countryside with a stop off for a pub lunch. If you have not joined us before then please consider coming along, or if you are a regular then consider any non Christian friends who you could bring along. Contact Jeremy Collingwood 529055 or Mike Watts 502048 for more details. We meet on the second Saturday of alternate months.

Christmas Fair - Saturday 11th December and a planning meeting for stallholders will be held on Thursday 30th September at 8pm in the Parish Room.

CONFIRMATION COURSE: A discussion group for adults will run for 6 weeks on Tuesday evenings
beginning on 5th October, with a break for half term on 26th. This is for those considering being confirmed this year (no need to make a decision yet), and is also open to any who were confirmed some time ago and would like a refresher course! Please speak to any of the clergy for more details.
TEENAGE CONFIRMATION: There will also be a course for 11-18 year olds interested in confirmation.

Quiz night with fish & chip supper - Saturday 16th October. Details will be in the Grapevine in October but start to organise your teams of 8.

Children’s & Youth Activities in the Parish Rooms

Sunday Club: Meets in the Parish Rooms during the 10am service during term time. Children aged 3 to 16 are welcome. Unaccompanied children may be collected at 11am. Contact Debbie Flicos on 524177.
Aftershock Youth Club: for young people aged 11 - 18 years. Meets on Sunday 6.30pm - 8.00pm. A chance to socialise, learn & enjoy each other’s company. And there’s normally food involved!

Brownies: Tuesdays at 5.30pm.

FAMILY SERVICES 2010 (usually on the 3rd Sunday of each month): 17th January, 21st February, 14th March (Mothering Sunday), 18th April, 9th May, 20th June, 18th July, 15th August, 19th September (Harvest Festival ), 17th October, 28th November, 19th December. All services start at 10.00am and last less than an hour. You are very welcome to stay for refreshments after the service.
