Jenny Tomlinson appointed as next Archdeacon of Birmingham
Rev’d Canon Jenny Tomlinson has been appointed as the next Archdeacon of Birmingham from May 2019. Jenny is the priest at St. James’ Church in Sewards End, and Mission and Ministry Adviser for the Colchester Area of Chelmsford Diocese.
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt. Rev’d Stephen Cottrell said, “Jenny Tomlinson will be a wonderful Archdeacon. The Diocese of Birmingham is getting someone of great faithfulness, ability, and generosity of spirit. Jenny has served us with tremendous wisdom, grace and perseverance. We will miss her hugely, but I am delighted that her gifts and experience will be used for the building of the kingdom in the Diocese of Birmingham.”
Jenny says, “I am very excited about my new role, but it will be sad to leave friends and colleagues in Saffron Walden and especially Sewards End, after more than ten years of very happy and fulfilling ministry there.” Jenny’s last Sunday in her current post is going to be 21st April, Easter Day, and she’ll take up her new position in May.
In congratulating his wife, David Tomlinson said that ‘While Jenny’s new appointment clearly has a bearing on my own future, I intend to continue as Area Dean and Team Rector for the time being. I have a period of long-planned study leave from May to July and am committed to returning to work on Sunday 4th August.’
Plans to mark Jenny's departure and to celebrate her contribution to the Team Ministry will take shape in the coming weeks.
