David's latest book is out
Rev'd Canon David Tomlinson, who was rector of St Mary’s Church until last November, has published a new book on Christian discipleship and the Eucharist.
David is now Vicar of St Paul’s in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham and the Chair of Thrive Together Birmingham. The restrictions caused by the coronavirus means that there cannot be a normal book launch, as happened for David’s first book last year. However, when the restrictions are eased, David is hopeful that he may be able to return to Saffron Walden for a book signing.
Meanwhile, the book may be ordered through Harts Books, Saffron Walden, through Amazon or directly from the publisher at www.sacristy.co.uk. The details for ordering the paperback, priced £12.99, are 'Knowing Christ: Christian Discipleship and the Eucharist' by David R. Tomlinson, Sacristy Press, 2020, ISBN 978-1-78959-122-4.
A synopsis of the book says, “On the road to Emmaus, Jesus’ followers recognized their risen Lord in the breaking of bread. The Eucharist remains at the heart of discipleship. Participation in the Eucharist transfigures Jesus’ companions, and inspires them to live for God in their daily lives. David explores the liturgy of the Eucharist and finds in it the basic building blocks of the Christian life. Through story, reflection and prayer, he invites readers to consider the different aspects of this central act of Christian worship, so that their faith can deepen, and they can learn to live more fully as members of Christ’s body, the Church. This book can be used for individual reading or group study. It offers valuable insights for new Christians, and for those who want to experience new riches in a familiar service.”
David’s successful first book, based on over 25 years of practical experience, was Leading a Church to Maturity in Love: A Theological and Practical Guide to Church Leadership by David R. Tomlinson and Stephen Cottrell (foreword), Sacristy Press, 2019, ISBN: 978-1-78959-023-4
