St Mary’s Flower Festival
  -  “When the Saints Go Marching In”

This will take place over the August bank holiday weekend Saturday 23rd to Monday 26th August 2019 from 10am to  6pm, and on Sunday 12pm to 6pm.

There will be over 40 exhibits, each representing one of the well-known and less well-known saints, decorating this cathedral-like church.

Coffee, tea and light refreshments are available 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there may be plants and flowers for sale.

There will also be a free concert, with a retiring collection, by the Claydon Chamber Orchestra, in the church at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday 24th August, who will perform works by Handel, Suk, Ravel, Elgar, Tchaikovsky and Vaughan Williams. See here for details.

Entry to the Flower Festival is by programme. Advance programmes are available at £2 from the Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre before 23rd August and on the door at £3.

A note from our Rector David Tomlinson: “The theme of ‘When the Saints go marching in’ resonates with the beauty and holiness of this sacred space and the worship that has been offered here down the centuries. ‘Sharing God’s love’ is the continuing mission of this church today and I trust that you experience warm hospitality here. The money generated by this event will go towards our current building project, evidence of which you can see in the award-winning servery, welcome desk and toilet at the West End. The next stage is to re-locate and renovate the Audley Tomb, a monument of national significance, to make it more accessible to visitors, and to refurbish the clergy and choir vestries.”
