This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day service at St Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden, is on the Monday 27 January 2025 at 1.40 pm. Years 6 and 7 from the local schools have been invited, but the service is open to all. There will be an opportunity to meet the speaker to explore the subject more deeply, after the service. All are welcome.
The service remembers the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust and also commemorates the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups and in more recent genocides recognised by the UK government. More information on Holocaust Memorial Day is available at

The speaker this year is Crina Morteanu from the Luton Roma Trust. According to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Europe’s Roma and Sinti people (often labelled as ‘Gypsies’ historically) were targeted by the Nazis for total destruction and that historians estimate that up to 500,000 Roma and Sinti people were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators and that many more were imprisoned, used as forced labour or subject to forced sterilisation and medical experimentation.
Luton Roma Trust follows the teachings of Jesus who calls us to love our neighbours, care for children and challenge injustice. More information on the Luton Roma Trust is available at
